M-43 8-inch Howitzer Motor Carriage
The M-43 Howitzer Carriage mounted the M1 or M2 8-inch howitzer in the M17 mount.
This is the identical carriage to the M-40 that mounts a 155mm gun.Prototypes were produced late in the World War II,were standardized as the M43 in November 1945 and saw service in Korea.
The carriage was developed from the M4 Sherman tank chasis.In development,this vehicle was designed T89.In addition to its armament,it carred 16 rounds of 8-in. howitzer ammunition.It was fitted with a rear spade and a folding crew platform behind the gun.
